Pre-Dance- 45 minutes weekly
The goal of Pre-Dance is to introduce a classroom atmosphere while capturing the free spirit in each child, allowing his/her imagination to run wild. We will encourage this through the use of music, props and movement. We also encourage sharing, taking turns, obeying rules and following directions. Pre-Dance will run throughout the year and your child can join at any time.

We encourage sharing, helping each other, getting along, listening and following directions. Some basic ballet, patterns and tumbling skills are incorporated. In January, we introduce the children at the Intro 1 level to tap. Students at the Intro 2 level will have tap all year. We strive for an environment that fosters creativity and expression through movement while developing coordination.

They will work on rhythms and musicality in the tap segment of class. We place more emphasis on listening skills and getting along with others while having fun. We also include some basic tumbling to help with strength and flexibility. These students will also experience the ever so popular “Jazz Dance” for the first time.
Ages 8-10
Fundamentals of Dance - 1.5 hours weekly
Recital: Ballet and Jazz
Optional Classes: Kid Club, Modern, Hip-Hop, Irish Step
At this stage we begin to formalize the young dancers’ training, concentrating on proper technique, terminology, rhythm, coordination, strength, flexibility and teamwork. Though we do expect a certain level of respect and discipline, we also believe that an enjoyable environment is one that is conducive to learning. At this level, class consists of ballet, tap and jazz, and students will perform Jazz in the recital for the first time. Something that most of them look forward to.

At the Intermediate 1 & 2 levels, we expect more from the dancer. The students are encouraged to study ballet, tap and jazz to make for a well-rounded program of dance. It is here that we fine-tune the dancers before they move on to the next division. We try to challenge the dancer more at this level and teach them how to help themselves learn better. At this point, we also expect that students respect each other and their teachers as well as themselves and the art of dance. Improper behavior will not be tolerated.

The “Excell Program” affords us the opportunity to work with you and the student to customize the dance curriculum, so as to best fit the dancers’ needs and desires. Attendance is an important aspect of the dancers’ training and should not be taken lightly.

Pointe

Students must be approved for this class. All Pointe students must take a regular ballet class.

Modern

Modern is a classical form of dance that both Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham pioneered. In this class, students will work to develop strength, control and balance as well as interpretation. This program is intended for the dedicated student who wishes to broaden her experiences in different forms of dance, but can also be enjoyed by the student who just wishes to gain self esteem.

Hip-Hop

In this class students will learn the most popular style of dance today. We try to incorporate some of the most popular music in class and some of the M-TV dance moves, provided we feel that it is age appropriate. We also try to keep a relaxed and fun-filled environment, while maintaining proper training.

Lyric

Lyric is an interpretive style of dance, intended for our older students, who will learn to portray the story or feeling of the song through body movements, emotions and expression. This class must be taken in addition to a Ballet, Modern or Jazz class.

Irish Step

The Irish Step Program has been a wonderful addition to our school and is available for students ages 4 and up. Over the past years, we have had a wonderful response to the program. The children had a wonderful time and the parents were thrilled to have their children learn part of the Irish Heritage, be it their own or not. We do hope that you will get as much enjoyment in the upcoming season.

Comp. Class

This class is new to our program, and is intended for the serious student who wishes to try competition. Students must take ballet in order to be eligible for this program, and should strongly consider the “Excell Program” .

Kids Club & Dance Team

The Kids Club, Teen Club and Dance Team are designed for the students who enjoy performing. Students learn a short 15 min. show during class, and perform at different elderly facilities in the area. The performances will take place on either Friday afternoons or Saturdays. No more than 4 performances will take place. In the past, the performers, as well as the elderly viewers had a wonderful time. This is a team effort and all who participate must be at all classes and performances. Students will also perform one of these numbers in the Spring Concert. Students must be enrolled in a regular program in order to participate in either the Kids Club, Teen Club or Dance Team.

Boys Only Hip-Hop

"Boys Only" is an enthusiastic class for the boys who expresses an interest in dance, but is concerned with being the only boy in a class of girls. We do our best to maintain a "Guy Friendly" style of dance by incorporating some of the latest pop songs and MTV artists. so boys, don't worry, there's no girly stuff in this class. Also available...Boys Tap!
